Nightshine Australia were selected by EDI Downer Rail to provide almost 23,000 Photoluminescent 'Glow in the Dark' signs for the NSW Waratah Train Project.

The signs [arrows] as shown in the following pictures are being installed on the base of each seat to provide a safe and secure egress system/pathway in the event of an emergency where the power/lighting fails.

4 May 2010 - Waratah test train arrives in Sydney

The Waratah prototype train that will be tested on the Sydney rail network over the coming months.

The NSW Government is delivering 626 brand new Waratah carriages for the network in an aim to make travel more comfortable for commuters, increase capacity and to attract more people to public transport.

Key features of the Waratah trains include:

  smart air-conditioning which automatically adjusts to the temperature and number of passengers;

◊  improved internal and new external CCTV security;

◊  new on board passenger information displays and communication systems;

◊  additional emergency help points in each vestibule;

◊  improved disability access including additional handrails, priority seats with more wheelchair spaces - 16 per eight carriage train;

◊  new carriage configuration so passengers can walk through the entire train;
 

The trial is a key part of the fleet’s ongoing safety and reliability test program and so that the transition to the new Waratah's will be smooth.

This is the biggest rolling stock order in Australia’s history.
